Traditional Irish Brown Bread Recipe at Castleview House Bed & Breakfast, Adare

This is simple and served fresh at Castleview House B&B Adare each morning.
(1 Loaf Recipe)

12oz Plain Flour
1/4 teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
4oz wholemeal Flour
2oz Wheatgerm (optional but makes a difference)
1 Large Egg
2 tablespoons of olive oil
Half Pint of Butter Milk

Pre-heat oven to 180c / 380f
Middle Shelf

Sieve the Flour (Plain/Wholemeal), salt and baking soda into a mixing bowl. Add wheatgerm, lifting all ingredients together with fingers. Make a well in the centre and add buttermilk, egg and olive oil. Mix all ingredients together with fingers in the same direction. (If mixture feels dry add a little buttermilk to moisten).

Turn ingredients into a floured loaf tin and bake for 45 - 50 minutes.
